BMC to beautify flyovers, skywalks
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to beautify seven flyovers and skywalks in the western suburbs.
The underbelly of flyovers and skywalks located in areas such as Andheri, Goregaon and Dahisar will be beautified. Meanwhile, vertical gardens will be developed under skywalks in Dahisar.
Among the flyovers selected are Veer Savarkar fl-yover and Mrinaltai Gore flyover in Goregaon; flyovers close to Gokhale Bridge in Andheri; Balasaheb Thackeray flyover in Jogeshwari; and Anandnagar flyover in Dahisar.
According to civic officials, the beautification plan will include gardens and jogging tracks. Currently, the civic body has beautified the space below Matunga flyover.
Thus, the space is free of illegal parking and has been developed into an area for joggers and senior citizens.
Further, the idea of vertical gardens has been proposed for the skywalks in Dahisar.
As of now, vertical gardens have been developed below a portion of the skywalk in Goregaon.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corpor-ation (MSRDC) has also decided to develop the space below flyovers. Around 27 flyovers across the city have been selected by the state body for beautification purposes.
