MUMBAI: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Thursday sanctioned Rs 20 crore for expansion of the Mumbai University (MU) Thane sub-centre.
The centre, which currently offers integrated management and law programmes, will get a new building for expansion. As per university officials, the new building will have start-up and incubation centres.
During the meeting, TMT, the transport body of the corporation, assured that university-bound bus services would be increased for the students’ convenience.
Vice-chancellor, professor Suhas Pednekar, while thanking the TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal for financial support of Rs 20 crore, said, “We will be able to develop the Thane sub-centre and add new academic activities to meet future challenges in the rapidly changing higher education scenario.”
With the funds, the varsity will construct a new building next to the existing building.
The new building will have new hostels and canteens. New courses falling under the management faculty will be introduced with the sanctioned funds.
Furthermore, the sub-centre will get an area of around 30,000 sq ft for promoting the incubation and start-up activities.
The sub-centre at Thane, which is located in the Balkum Pada area, is quite far from the station area, as per the students.
