The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi Government has been providing Delhi residents consuming up to 200 units of electricity a month, free power. Free power is a roaring issue in the Delhi Assembly elections. The AAP is expected to get benefits out of this sop.

Maharashtra energy minister Nitin Raut said, “We are working on a plan to provide free electricity up to 100 units to all electricity consumers of the state. For this, I have directed the officials of the energy department to submit a report in this regard within three months.”

A senior official of the energy department said that they had been directed to explore all possibilities to avail electricity at cheaper rates. “If the expenses on power generation could be curtailed and recovery of outstanding electricity bills is done, the electricity can be provided at a cheaper rate.”
