Western Railway line affected after derailment
Mumbai: The derailment of a goods train in Saphale affected services on the Western Railway (WR) line on Tuesday. The services were hampered after three wagons of a goods train derailed in Saphale at around 6:15 pm on Tuesday evening. Due to the derailment, long distance trains like Surat Intercity, Saurashtra Express, Gujarat Mail, Surat-Mumbai Central Intercity Express and two services of Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) were affected.
Western Railway chief public relations officer Ravindra Bhakar said, “The section between Dahanu and Virar was completely shut and resumed after 11:00 pm.”
He also added, “The section between Virar and Andheri was severely affected, and services between Churchgate and Virar were delayed.” The services between Virar and Churchgate witnessed a delay of around 25 minutes.
A goods train derailment had disrupted services on Mumbai suburban railway line last tmonth. The derailment took place on February 28. Three wagons of a good train had derailed at Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar (GTBN) and had affected almost 80 percent of harbours services.
Three wagons of a goods train had toppled over and fell on their sides. As a result of the derailment, office-goers heading towards CS) were affected. After the mishap, the Central Railway (CR) was left in a panic even though an extra Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) buses were pressed into service to bring the situation under control.
