Uddhav Thackeray lashes out at BJP for not taking any action

He appealed to all women to unite and fight against such leaders and remove them from power.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday lashed out at controversial remarks of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ram Kadam. BJP is doing politics by claiming that they are devotees of Chhatrapati Shivaji and their MLAs are using low level language for women, he said. Mr Thackeray criticised the BJP leadership in an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana for not speaking or taking any action against Mr Kadam.

“BJP leaders are always commenting on all small issues. And if someone raises their voice against the government, they are quick to call them anti-national. But why are they silent on this issue, when their own MLA has made such a comment? Earlier as well, BJP leaders have made comments about soldiers’ wives and farmers. It clearly shows arrogance on their part. Such a party should not take the name of Shivaji Maharaj,” he said.

Mr Thackeray added that despite agitations going on across the state, and women activists on the streets demanding strict punishment for Kadam, the BJP government has not taken any action so far. He appealed to all women to unite and fight against such leaders and remove them from power.

Meanwhile, Mr Kadam who is already under fire over his remarks, was caught on the wrong foot again on Friday after he tweeted that Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre was no more, only to retract it after realising that the news was not true and faced a massive backlash. Bendre is currently undergoing treatment for cancer in the US. Kadam tweeted in Marathi that “Bollywood and Marathi diva" Sonali Bendre "has passed away in America" and condoled her demise.

After he was trolled for believing a baseless rumour, he deleted the message and posted another tweet, saying, “About Sonali Bendre ji, it was rumour for the last two days. I pray to god for her good health.”
