IIT-B joins hand with NECTI for research efforts

MUMBAI: The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has partnered with Japanese IT major NEC Corporation’s subsidiary NEC Technologies India (NECTI) to solve a broad range of social challenges in India.

The two organisations is said to carry out joint research and development in the field of big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)  w-as signed recently betwe-en NEC Laboratories India (NLI) and Dr Suhas Joshi, who is dean of alumni and corporate rel-ations as well as ‘Rahul Bajaj’ chair professor at the department of mecha-nical engineering, IIT-B.

The MoU will help optimise the movement of logistics container in the country resulting in shor-ter times for goods delivery and lower logistics cost.

According to the institute, both the organisations will jointly work on value creation for major government initiatives across smart cities, as well as for the logistics and transportation doma-in, by leveraging advan-ced technologies. The main aim is to explore the use of big data analytics to optimise the movement of logistics container across the country.

Dr Joshi, in a statement by IIT-B, said, “IIT-B is steadily building research capabilities in collaboration with corporates investing heavily in research and development, including firms from Japan. Such cooperation would open up new avenues of research for our students and faculty members.”

Dr Akihiko Iketani said  “Through this joint research and development effort, we aim to address social challenges posted by rapid urbanisation and economic development in India.”
