Cidco inks three deals, boosts Navi Mumbai International airport

Mumbai: In a bid to expedite the work of the New Mumbai airport, three important agreements were signed on Monday between City and Industrial Develop-ment Corporation (Cidco) and the Mumbai International Airport Pvt Limited in presence of chief minister Devendra Fadanvis. The CM had already made an announcement that the first take off from the airport will be in the year 2019. The Greenfield Airport has been planned on an area of 1,600 hectares in Navi Mumbai for which Cidco is the nodal agency. Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd has been selected as partner of New Mumbai International Airport project. Along with this company Cidco and other partner companies came together and formed a SVP named New Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd. With this company three major agreements namely, concessions agreement, State government’s support agreement and stakeholders agreement were signed in the programme.

Cidco managing director Bhushan Gangrani and GVK Reddy of the GVK Company on behalf of the New Mumbai International Airport Company signed the agreements.

An official from the Cidco said, “All the clearances and permissions for New Mumbai International Airport have been obtained. The land development works in the core area of the airport have been started. This airport would handle one crore passengers and 0.26 million tones cargo per year. The first phase of this airport would be ready by December 2019.”

The Navi Mumbai international airport, the second airport in the city, will be built near Panvel. The project, worth Rs 16,000 crore has been mired in environment norm-related controversy due to which it has been delayed. However, it is now back on track with the recent development of appointing the developer.
