Show Karadia’s docs sent to centre: Bombay HC
Karadia was born in Karachi and his parents had not applied for his citizenship when he came to India with his mother as an infant in 1967.
Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed the state to produce documents to prove the timeline of the documents they had forwarded to the Central government to process the citizenship application of Jogeshwari resident Asif Karadia, who has been asked to go to Pakistan by the FRRO office.
Karadia was born in Karachi and his parents had not applied for his citizenship when he came to India with his mother as an infant in 1967. The HC took cognisance of the petitioners grouse that the state and centre was making him run from pillar to post and not processing his application which was filed last year.
A division bench of justices R.M. Borde and R.G. Ketkar was hearing the writ petition of Abbas Karadia seeking directions to the state and Centre to expedite the application of his son Asif for citizenship and till then grant him a long-term visa.
When the matter came up for hearing senior advocate Sujay Kanatawala informed the court that while Karadia had been diligent in providing all documents sought by the state to prove his bonafides, his application was not being processed. “I am being kicked around like a football and the authorities are not doing anything about my application,” said Mr Kanatawala referring to the plight of his client.
On its part the public prosecutor Poornima Kantharia for the state informed the HC that it had already processed and forwarded Karadia’s documents to the central authorities and the onus was on them.
