City cops tweet handy tips for motorists
MUMBAI: In the light of a heavy rainfall warning by the meteorological department from June 8 to 10 in the city, the Mumbai police has tweeted a few tips that can come in handy for motorists in floods.
On Friday, the Mumbai police tweeted a few precautionary steps for motorists. They included the tricks like — ‘Do not try to turn the key and check if the car still works in the floods as it could damage the engine beyond repairs’, or ‘whenever the water reaches the door level, roll down the windows and switch off the air conditioner and disengage the central locking system, so as to evacuate when needed.’
Some other tips included using the two rods of the headrest to open the door by bending it in the weakest part of the window and door, in anticipation that it may start malfunctioning once the water enters the systems.
Deepak Deoraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and Mumbai Police spokesperson said, “The precautionary measures have been put up in public interest.
“While our policemen will be stationed at various spots in flood-like situations for help, these tips could come in handy when one is stranded alone.”
The tweets were highly appreciated by the twitteratti, who happily commented on the post, appreciating the concern and timely tips. One user, Ajay Bidikar commented, “Great technical advice.”
