12 services planned for Western Railway commuters
Mumbai: Railways has decided that twelve air-conditioned train services will run throughout the day in the city — two during morning and evening peak hours. The train is likely to run on the fast track as well as the slow line and has low-lying rail over-bridges (ROB).
Officials of Western Railway, which is currently conducting the trials of the air-conditioned train on its line, has said that there will be 12 services in a day, out of which two services will run during peak morning and evening hours.
Speaking to The Asian Age, a senior Western Railway official said, “Right now, we have chartered out a temporary plan of how the train would run. For example, it would leave from the Churchgate station for Borivali a little before 7 am, and another service in the same direction would be made available after 9 am.”
The official also added, “The idea is that officegoers who have to reach their workplace in south Mumbai at 9 and 10 am can catch this train. Similarly, it would leave from Churchgate station a little before 5 pm and again at a few minutes after 6pm.”
Western Railway officials have also said that the AC train trials are being conducted at least three times a week, between Churchgate and Virar stations.
