Lack of assessors delays Law department results

Apart from law, till Tuesday the varsity had managed to declare 293 results out of a total of 477 examinations.

Mumbai: No results have been declared for the department of law under the Mumbai University till Tuesday. The prime reason is the smallnumber of faculty members, that are assessing the answer sheets of the law students.

According to a source from the university, only one to two assessors are present for the assessment procedure per day as most of them are ‘part-time teachers’. “Most of the teachers in the law department are lawyers, who work in the varsity part time. Hence, not everyone can manage to be in the assessment centres, which is why there is this big delay in declaring the law results,” said the source.

Ashok Yende, who is the Director and Professor of MU’s Law academy, he said, “The University should declare law results because many students are waiting to go abroad for further studies. Moreover, this is not the first year when this lack of faculties is happening as majority of the team are lawyers doing their part time as teacher.”

Out of a total of 94,746 answer books, the varsity assessors have evaluated only 76,449 in a span of three and half months with 18,297 still pending evaluation. All these answer books belong to three-year LLB, five-year LLB and LLM (Masters). There are only 102 faculty members in MU’s law department who are also involved in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) assessment system. Apart from law, till Tuesday the varsity had managed to declare 293 results out of a total of 477 examinations.
