BMC blames cops for delay in action against hoardings

On this the bench asked the BMC to submit affidavit comprising details of ward wise action taken by it so far and also names of police stations.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday complained before the Bombay high court that it does not get protection as and when demanded by it from the local police for taking action against illegal hoardings, which is delaying the process of action against such hoardings.

Following this the court asked the BMC to submit an affidavit with details of ward wise action taken by it against illegal hoardings and also details of police stations that have refused to give protection to BMC.

When the bunch of petitions raising issue of illegal hoardings in the state came up for hearing before the division bench of Justice AS Oka and Justice RI Chagla the BMC informed the bench that it is facing problem in taking action against illegal hoardings because of refusal of protection by local police. The counsel for BMC told the bench that not every request seeking protection to remove illegal hoardings is approved and hence the civic body finds it difficult to remove these hoardings.

On this the bench asked the BMC to submit affidavit comprising details of ward wise action taken by it so far and also names of police stations.
