Mumbai: A 35-year-old woman from Bhayandar became the latest victim of an online fraud and ended up losing Rs 1.83 lakh.

The woman (name withheld to protect her identity) in her complaint to the police has stated that she came into contact with a man who identified himself as London resident Gray Benson, through FB  in June, this year.

Soon the two exchanged mobile numbers and frequently chatted on instant messaging apps. Claiming to be an engineer, Benson proposed the woman for marriage and expressed his desire to send some expensive gifts to the complainant.

Days later, she received a call from the parcel office informing about the arrival of her gift, but was asked to pay charges to obtain it. The unsuspecting woman paid a total of Rs 1.83 lakh, through multiple transfers in different bank accounts.
