Mumbai: Minor's body found in a ration shop

The V.B. Marg police said that Nishad was a second standard student from a civic-run school.

Mumbai: A day after the naked body of an unidentified minor boy was found inside a suitcase outside near Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, the body of a seven-year-old boy, Karan Nishad, was recovered from inside a ration shop in Kurla (east) on Monday.

The V.B. Marg police said that Nishad was a second standard student from a civic-run school.

“He went missing from his home in Kurla for the last three days. On Friday, the boy had returned home from school at 5 pm. After leaving his home to play with his friends, he did not come back,” a police officer said.

Karan’s father, who is a fruit-vendor, used to work on a part-time basis in the ration shop from where the police recovered his son’s body. The ration shop owner alerted the cops after spotting Karan’s body in the shop, which was shut on Saturday and Sunday.

The police is waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of Karan’s death.

On Sunday, the unidentified body of a 12-year-old boy was recovered by the Trombay police. The police, for now, do not have any evidence to link the deaths.

DCP Shahaji Umap has said, “We have received CCTV footage and are searching for the accused. Our officials have visited the both the crime spots. But till now we didn’t find any similarity in the incidents.”

Bablu Nishad, the uncle of Karan said, “My brother came to Mumbai five years ago. He works as a fruit vendor and construction worker. We all were searching for Karan from last three days. On Monday afternoon, we got call from police to see the body of a child. After we identified the body, his parents totally collapsed. Our family is in trauma and the accused must be punished.”
