Mumbai: Starting Tuesday, tickets or passes for the air-conditioned train can be bought on the railway’s UTS application (app). The railway has been working to incorporate the option in its app ever since the launch of the AC train on December 25, 2017.

With inclusion of the AC option in the UTS app, people can book a joy ride for their family from the comfort of their home. Else, they can simply purchase tickets/passes without having to stand in serpentine queues at the counter. An official said, “Yes, we have been trying to upgrade the app technology for commuters and they can now easily purchase tickets or passes for their beloved AC train right from their homes.”

Meanwhile, Western Railway (WR) officials said that the AC train had just begun to see an average 500 monthly passes being sold at counters since its inaugural run. The passes were mostly monthly and fortnightly as commuters still wanted to get a feel of the train before purchasing a quarterly or half-yearly pass.

The official said that the AC train had been the apple of commuters’ eyes ever since its launch and had seen many people purchase tickets and passes for their daily travel to and from office. During the day-long Maharashtra bandh last week that was called for by dalit groups, the AC train was suspended from services as officials felt that at Rs 56 crore, it was by far the most expensive train in Mumbai’s railway history.
