Shyamvar Rai has deal with cops: Peter Mukerjea's lawyer

He claimed that his surname on his school mark sheet is written as Suryavanshi and hence his passport was issued on that name.

Mumbai: Former media baron Peter Mukerjea’s lawyer on Tuesday completed the cross-examination of accused-turned approver Shyamvar Rai in 2012 Sheena Bora murder case.

Mukerjea’s lawyer Shrikant Shivde claimed that there is deal between Rai and police, who have promised to Rai if he gives false statements.

Mr Shivde also claimed that Rai has no regard for truth. “He prepares documents and false stories to meet the situation and hence his testimony is not reliable,” he said.

While cross-examining Rai, Mr Shivde tried to point out that Rai has a criminal background. Shivde claimed that Shyamvar’s surname in his passport is mentioned as Suryavanshi and not Rai and he got his passport issued using his mother’s name because there are criminal cases registered against him in his village in Madhya Pardesh.

However, Rai refuted this claim and said that he does not have any other criminal case registered against him anywhere in India. He agreed that he was staying in Mumbai when his passport was issued and he had given address of his village and got his passport issued from Bhopal.

He claimed that his surname on his school mark sheet is written as Suryavanshi and hence his passport was issued on that name.

The court is expected to hear the application filed by Mukerjea on Wednesday in which he has alleged that the CDR of Rai’s mobile phone has been tampered with or manipulated by investigators. He has sought his own and Rai’s CDR “disabling” the option of “enable editing”.

Mukerjea is husband to Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the murder of Bora.
