Shiv Sena leader loses mobile, wallet

The Sena leader also lost a high-end cell phone that he had purchased merely eight months back.

Mumbai: Amidst celebrations and revelries in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday after the mayoral election, Shiv Sena group leader Yashwant Jadhav, who was amidst thousands of party supporters, got a shock of this life when his wallet and high-end mobile phone went missing.

As Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Hemangi Worlikar won the mayor and deputy mayor election respectively, Sena leaders and activists celebrated the victory in grand style outside the BMC. Party chief Uddhav Thackeray was also present to cheer the winning candidates along with his wife Rashmi and son Aaditya.

With thousands of party supporters thronging the headquarters to celebrate the win, there was a huge commotion in and out of the BMC headquarters. Amidst the chaos, Mr Jadhav’s wallet which had `12,000 in cash, and cell phone went missing. The wallet also contained all his cards like Aadhar card, PAN card and two-term corporation identity cards. Incidentally, his handset had been purchased barely eight months ago.  

According to party sources, after being declared as the mayor, Mr Mahadeshwar went to garland the statue of Pherozeshah Mehta, the municipal commissioner of Bombay Municipality in 1873, in front of the heritage building. Mr Jadhav, as the Sena group leader, went to escort him up to the statue. Later he came outside the building where a huge dais decked with saffron party flags had been set up.

After making his way to the stage through huge crowds, he found that both his wallet and cell phone have gone missing. He tried calling his phone frantically too but could not find the same. Later he sent a message to his number asking the person who finds it to return the same but there was no response.

When asked, Mr Jadhav did not wish to comment on the issue, Vijay Kadam, senior police inspector of the Azad Maidan police station, confirmed of receiving the complaint from Mr Jadhav. It needs to be verified, he added.
