HSC students fear delayed results could affect future
Mumbai: The class 12 students are anxious since junior college teachers have refused to return their assessed Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) papers to the board.
Students fear that the delay in results or improper assessment could affect their future. Though the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has assured them that there will not be any delay in publication of the results, students and parents are worried about their academic future.
The teachers have assessed around 85 lakh answer papers of HSC and now only 15 lakh is remains to be assessed. These papers are supposed to be given back to the MSBSHSE, however they refused to do so as their demands are not fulfilled by the state.
“Many media reports are going on among our WhatsApp group saying the teachers are refusing to assess the papers or submit our answer papers. This is scary because if the results are delayed by any chance, it will be difficult for many of us as we want to go for Engineering and the dates of CET (Entrance Exam for Engineering) are already out,” said Rahul Desai, a student from Bandra-based college.
Prachi Ghode, another student from Birla College, Kalyan is planning to move Delhi to do her graduation. She said, “I am not sure how much true the rumours are about our results but I really wish nothing is true as I am well prepared to go for Mass-Media course in Delhi University, for which they have entrance examinations. If anything goes wrong, it will severely affect the admission process.”
“Since last week many parents have been calling to see what is going on. Unless our demands are met, we are not going to go any further. Though the assessment is going on properly, we will decide if we want to submit the papers to the board or not,” a teacher said.
Naseer Shaikh, another teacher, suggested the parents and especially the students to remain clam. “Summer vacations are for them to relax and think about what they want to opt for after class 12. So, instead of worrying about this, they should have fun. I am sure that the government will do what they should be doing and nothing will affect the academic life of the student.”
MU mess
Box Last year, the final year students of the University of Mumbai (MU) went through a lot of trouble as the varsity delayed their results by four months. Due to this, students applying for their masters’ courses within the country and outside the country lost the opportunity of completing the admission process as they did not have results. The assessors caused the delay as the varsity introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. OSM is a system where the answer papers are assessed in a digital way in order to maintain clarity in the system.
