First part of FYJC admissions from today onwards

In first part, i.e Registration, the student is supposed to submit details along with his or her location.

MUMBAI: The state education department will start the first part of admission process for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) on Thursday. The first part includes registration process done by the students, wherein they are supposed to furnish their personal details including location and date of birth in the form available at the FYJC
admission portal.

The first part of the process is usually done after the results of Class 10 are declared but this year, the department decided to initiate it avoid any delay like that of last year. The FYJC admissions are divided into two processes - Registration and Preference. In the registration, the student is suppose to submit all personal details along with his or location to the department through the online form available in the portal. The second part - preference - the student needs to fill the form where he or she mentions choices of course, streams, preferred colleges, preferred locations, scored marks and other valid documents. After both the process, the admission portal will scrutinise both the details and according to the preference list and merit (or marks scored) will allot colleges to the students through admission rounds.

Last year, due to several technical glitches and late admission process, the FYJC process was stretched till eight rounds. Apart from four mandatory rounds, the department conducted two special rounds and two rounds on the basis of first-come, first-serve (FCFS) as many students were left without any seats after the four rounds.

“This year, the target is to allocate all the students with minimum rounds. Moreover, this year, the students have been given an upper hand in the admission procedure where the student can tell the department whether or not he or she have allotted the seat or confirmed the seat by taking the admission,” said a senior official of the department. Every student will be given login ID and password, which will give them direct access to the portal through which they can confirm about their admission status to the department.

Last year’s admission mess

Last year, 2017-18, the state education department conducted extra four round apart from the mandatory four rounds. Even after first four rounds, more than 10,000 students were left without seat, as either they could not understand the online admission process or due to glitches in the portal leading to making the process slow. For these students - the department first conducted two 'special' round and two rounds based on 'first-come, first-serve' basis in order to allocate each and every student. Moreover, last year, the department scrapped the offline admissions too which is done by the colleges causing more trouble for the students.
