Mumbai University on fast-track to declare results
It has also increased the number of papers that the assessors have to assess.
Mumbai: Following a rap from the chancellor last week and in a bid to expedite assessment of answer sheets of Third Year B.com and all other final year exams, the University of Mumbai has asked Central Assessment Program (CAP) centres to call in assessors on Sunday. It has also increased the number of papers that the assessors have to assess.
According to some centres the online assessment system is proving to be slow as it takes assessors at least 8-10 minutes to assess one answer sheet, among other problems.
According to a senior university official, after the governor’s rap, professor Vinayak Dalvie, a senior professor from Mithibai College, was asked to take up the responsibility of expediting the assessment process as well as ironing out the problems in online assessment. The governor had last week asked the university to expedite assessment of answer sheets and ensure that results are out by July 31.
“Some of the suggestions included keeping CAP centres open on Sunday as well as roping in more teachers to complete the assessment. The university has managed to get an additional 2,500 teachers to take up assessment work,” said the official. Apart from this, the official said that the online assessment problems faced by the centres was the main issue that the university is working to address on an urgent basis.
“The online assessment process has many lacunae, which includes getting wrong question paper codes for assessment, getting answer papers of other scripts than that opted for, answer sheets not being uploaded and problems while uploading the answer sheets after assessment,” said a faculty member from a suburban CAP centre.
The university official said a meeting was held on Sunday with the service provider wherein officials from the governor’s office and higher and technical education department were present. The service provider assured that the problems would be sorted out within two days and assessment could then go ahead full swing.
The university faces an uphill task of assessing around 18 lakh answer sheets, of which eight lakh are from Commerce. Currently there are around 10,500 teachers doing assessment work.
