Woman kills self by jumping off 27th floor

The police will question the family members of the 37-year-old woman.

Mumbai: A 37-year-old woman, who came from the US to attend her mother’s funeral, committed suicide by jumping off the 27th floor of Rustomjee Athena Tower in Thane’s Majhiwada area’s on Sunday morning, as she could not bear the loss of her mother’s death. According to sources, Hetal Parmar (37) had come from the United States on Sunday morning to attend her mother’s funeral and jumped off out of grief. Thane’s Kapurbawdi police is probing the case and has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the case.

The officials of Kapurbawdi police said that the incident took place at 8.30 am on Sunday morning, when Parmar jumped off from the 27th floor of the building. The watchman said that he heard a loud thud, following which he saw Parmar lying in a pool of blood. The security guard and residents of the building immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and rushed her to the nearest private hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The sources also claimed that Parmar, who was a married woman, came to India from the United States, where she lived with her husband and was devastated after hearing about her mother’s death. Upon reaching home, she could not recover from the grief and committed suicide by jumping off the balcony of her mother’s 27th floor apartment.

Thane police’s spokesperson Sukhada Narkar confirmed the incident and said, “The kapurbawdi police has registered an ADR in the case and prima facie it seems to be a suicide. The police is probing this case, and nothing more can be revealed at this moment as it is very early to say anything more.” The police will be questioning the family members of the woman.
