Mumbai: Man beaten to death over suspicion of being a thief; 4 held
Mumbai: The city police have arrested four persons for allegedly thrashing to death an unidentified man suspecting him to be a thief.
The accused, all aged between 30 and 35, suspected that the man had come to the Madh Island area to commit a theft on Monday, he said.
They then tied the man, around 30 years of age, to a tree in the area and allegedly beat him up severely, said the official attached to the Malwani police station.
Some locals informed the police about the incident, who then rushed to the spot and sent the man to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, he said.
The police later registered a case and based on the CCTV footage of the area, they arrested the four accused last evening, the official said.
The accused were booked under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) and other relevant provisions, he added.
