ECI publishes final list of voters
Mumbai: The state branch of the Election Commission of India (ECI) has published its final list of 89,936,261 voters in Maharashtra, indicating an increase of 4.90 lakh voters in the last 34 days. All voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the upco-
ming Assembly elections scheduled to be held on October 21.
The second summary electoral roll for the state Assembly polls was published on August 31. More than 10 lakh new voters have enrolled themselves, while around 2.15 lakh names have been deleted from the summary electoral roll, an official from the state branch of ECI said.
After publication of the electoral roll, the state branch of the ECI appealed citizens to apply and become voters till the last date of nomination of candidates i.e. October 4, 2019. 490,050 voters enrolled themselves from September 1 to October 4.
According to the second summary electoral roll, 8.94 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the state Assembly elections.
As per the voter list finalised on October 4, there are a total 89,936,261 voters in Maharashtra. Of these, 46,875,750 are male voters while 42,843,635 are female voters while 2,634 voters belong to the third gender.
Apart from this, there are 117,581 service electors in the state; 114,496 of whom are male voters, while the remaining 3,085 are female voters.
During the Lok Sabha elections, the number of male voters in the state was 45,702,579 while the number of female voters was 41,625,819. The total number of voters eligible to cast their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections was 8.85 crore.
The total number of voters in the state in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 8.07 crore.
