Karnataka rejected opportunists: Ex-CM
Mumbai: Calling them the voters’ reaction to “opportunist politics”, BJP leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis Monday welcomed the results of the Karnataka Assembly by polls, wherein his party swept the maximum seats.
Mr Fadnavis, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, tweeted that this is how voters reacted to opportunist politics and to the stealing of mandate by rejected parties coming together for the sake of power.
He further tweeted that the Karnataka by polls proved that people would not tolerate if someone tried to play with the public mandate and wish. Mr Fadnavis commented on his official Twitter account @dev_fadnavis.
The former Maharashtra CM also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president and Union home minister Amit Shah, and Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa for the saffron party’s stellar performance in the by elections.
“Many congratulations to BJP India, BJP Karnataka karyakartas, hon’ble Narendra Modi, hon’ble Amit Shah and Yediyurappa. #BJP-SweepsKarnataka,” he tweeted.
He said that voters had rejected the parties who “stole” mandate for the sake of power, in an obvious reference to the Congress and the JD(S) joining hands to keep the BJP — which emerged as the single-largest political party — out of power.
The bypolls in Karnataka were held on December 5 and the results were announced Monday, wherein the BJP won 12 out of the 15 seats.
