Mumbai: A minor fire erupted on-board INS Pralaya, a missile vessel, docked at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday morning. The ship is currently undergoing repair at the dockyard. According to defence spokesperson, the fire was brought under control by the Dockyard fire brigade within few minutes after it broke out. No injuries were reported.

Rahul Sinha, the defence spokesperson, said, “There was a minor fire on-board INS Pralaya, a missile vessel which is undergoing repair at Naval Dockyard Mumbai. The fire was reported in the gyro compartment and was subsequently brought under control with the assistance of Dockyard fire brigade and no injuries were reported.” Mr Sinha said, “fire broke out when welding and cutting activity was underway onboard the vessel. It was brought under control within a few minutes. However, material called lagging, continued to simmer.”

Mr Sinha said, “It did not take very long to control the fire, only the material continued to simmer due to heat. The fire erupted at a place on the vessel which is slightly inaccessible and which is why it took time to bring it under control.”
