Court rejects Areeb's bail application to attend marriage
Mumbai: A special court on Thursday rejected the application filed by Kalyan youth, Areeb Majeed, seeking temporary bail for two days to attend his brother’s wedding. The court has also disallowed his another application seeking his call data record (CDR) before arrest. However, the court allowed his third application seeking his medical report when he was in police custody.
Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) judge S.M. Bhosale on Thursday passed order on the applications filed by Majeed and directed the prosecution to provide him copies of his medical reports for the tenure when he was in police custody after his arrest between November 29, 2014 and December 17, 2014.
The judge however, rejected his pleas seeking interim bail in first week of February so that he could attend his brother’s wedding and seeking CDR of his mobile phone.
Majeed was arrested for travelling to Iraq and Syria to join ISIS. Majeed, who has not engaged any lawyer to conduct the trial and for defending him in the court, argued before the court that he is ready to pay the charges of escort while being taken to attend the wedding. He had requested the court to grant him two days interim bail so that he could attend the marriage.
The lawyers representing the NIA had opposed the plea saying that Majeed is facing serious charges of travelling abroad to participate in fight for ISIL. The prosecution had also expressed apprehension that if released on bail he may temper with evidence.
