Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed a sudden drop in temperature in the early hours of Saturday. After a long humid week, the breezy atmosphere is here to make the weekend pleasant for Mumbaikars. According to experts from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the change in temperature has been attributed to the surfacing of easterly winds and the increase in the wind speed. Officials said that citizens could expect the windy weather for another two days.

The city saw maximum temperature of 31.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which is slightly below the average temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded at Santacruz was 17.4 degrees Celsius, which was slightly below the average temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius. “The cloudy atmosphere is no longer present and the easterly winds and see breeze has picked up speed. The mercury has seen a slight drop to a nearly normal temperature,” said K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director general (western region), IMD.

Many citizens were seen enjoying the pleasant winds at the Bandstand in Bandra and at Marine Drive in south Mumbai. “I have come out to enjoy the fresh air after a week. I am happy that even the air quality is better today so we can enjoy our weekends,” said Debasmita Das, a visitor at Bandstand.

The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 64 per cent. Meanwhile, the city’s air quality showed significant improvement with the Air Quality Index recorded under the ‘moderate’ category, after a week-long spell of ‘poor’ air.
