Court allows lawyers to meet Indrani in hospital
Mumbai: A special CBI court on Tuesday allowed Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer’s application, seeking permission to meet Indrani at J.J. Hospital. The application was moved after hospital authorities denied one of Indrani’s lawyers, advocate Sia Chaudhary, permission to meet her at the hospital and even refused advocate Chaudhary access to Indrani’s medical papers.
In the application, advocate Chaudhary pleaded that Indrani’s lawyers be allowed to meet her to take further instructions and call for her medical records for the court’s perusal.
On Tuesday, special judge J.C. Jagdale heard the arguments of both sides and allowed the lawyers to meet Indrani in hospital. The judge in his order said, “As far as the prayer of the advocate to visit under-trial Indrani, presently admitted to J.J. Hospital, is concerned, there is no impediment.”
“However, it has to be remembered that the accused number 1 (Indrani) is still hospitalised and under medical supervision. Therefore, it is not advisable to interfere in the said medical treatment. Advocates Sudeep Pasbola, Gunjan Mangala and Siya Chaudhary are hereby permitted to meet hospitalised Indrani at J.J. Hospital in the presence of one or two attendees from J.J. Hospital,” the judge said. He added that the lawyers were expected to remain in hospital for reasonable amount of time only.
