BMC's 'single window' system hit in other states
Mumbai: The BMC’s “single window” system for granting permissions for building construction is a “hit” with other municipal corporations, what with leading civic bodies seeking the BMC’s help in improving and expediting their own building construction license system.
According to civic officials, the Centre and Niti Aayog have taken notice of the BMC’s efforts and asked other municipal corporations to follow suit. Accordingly, municipal corporations of Chennai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Surat, Port Blair and Hyderabad have taken the BMC’s assistance to expedite their building construction license system.
Sanjay Darade, chief engineer, development plan department, said, “Some of the municipal corporation officials contacted the BMC to seek our guidance. In some of the cases, the BMC officials themselves visited the respective civic bodies to impart training to their officials.”
As part of improving city’s “ease of doing business” ranking, the BMC has halved the number of permissions required for building construction. It has also implemented a “single window” system for giving these permissions.
It has simplified the building construction process such that developers now have to procure only 58 permissions instead of the earlier 119 clearances.
