Ex-Maharashtra minister quits Congress over stand on Article 370

Mumbai: Former Mumbai Congress chief and state home minister Kripashankar Singh on Tuesday resigned from the Congress saying he did not agree with the party’s stand on abrogation of Article 370.

Mr Singh put in his papers while he was in New Delhi for a screening committee meeting convened by senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.

“I resigned from the Congress because I do not agree with the party’s  stand to oppose abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir,” former Mumbai Congress president said.

When asked whether he is joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the former Congress leader said: “not at all”.

Sources, however, said that Mr Singh would enter the saffron fold in the upcoming days. It is yet to be known whether he will join the BJP or the Shiv Sena. Rumours are rife that he will be given a ticket either against his former colleague and sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly  Nasim Khan from Chandivali or Kalina.
