Indrani's lawyers confront Rai with his statements to police
Mumbai: The defence lawyer of Indrani Mukerjea, who is the main accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, on Friday confronted accused-turned-approver Shyamvar Rai with claims he made in the court but did not mention in his statement to the Khar police. According to the defence, these additions in the statement are an afterthought, and that’s why they were not mentioned earlier.
While answering questions asked by Mukerjea’s lawyer Sudeep Pasbola and Gunjan Mangala, Rai told the court that he might have revealed similar details to the Khar police, but he cannot assign any reason why they did not mention those in his statements recorded on August 24, 2015.
According to the defence the details which were mentioned by Rai in the court but are not part of his statement before Khar police include that Indrani telling him that Sheena and Mikhail were trying to defame her by calling her mom and there was an affair going on between Sheena and Rahul Mukerjea.
Another point that the defence pointed out was an addition to his statement that Indrani had given the medicine mixed mineral water bottle to Sheena to drink.
It was also pointed out that Rai told the court that Indrani asked him to press Sheena’s mouth (so that she cannot shout) and when he moved from his seat and turned toward he saw that Sanjeev Khanna had caught Sheena Bora by her hair, but these claims are not there in the statement given by him to the police.
