Cops log 100 cases against firecrackers

More than 100 cases were registered in the city on Saturday for violating the Supreme Court order regarding bursting firecrackers during Diwali.

Mumbai: More than 100 cases were registered in the city on Saturday for violating the Supreme Court order regarding bursting firecrackers during Diwali. The apex court had last month permitted the sale and manufacture of low-emission “green” firecrackers countrywide and fixed a two-hour time period from 8 pm to 10 pm, for bursting them during Diwali or any other festival.

Thereafter, the state home department asked the police to implement the SC directive on firecrackers and ensure strict action against those who violated the deadline.

Till Friday, more than 100 cases were registered against people in various parts of the metropolis for bursting firecrackers beyond the 10pm deadline, said police officials. The Mumbai police spokesperson said, 53 cases were registered separately at various police stations against firecracker vendors, who violated the safety guidelines. The Trombay police arrested two people for allegedly bursting firecrackers at midnight.
