Thief snatches mobile, jumps from train

Mumbai: The Panvel Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case against an unidentified person in connection with snatching the mobile phone of restaurant manager, Sachindra Kumar Singh, while travelling from Thane to Panvel recently.

The thief snatched Mr Singh’s mobile phone and made good his escape by jumping from the moving train.

Mr Singh, too, jumped from the moving train to chase the robber but lost his balance and suffered serious injuries. He is recuperating in a private hospital.

Sitaram Mali, police sub-inspector of Panvel GRP, said, “Taking suo moto cognisance of the incident, we have registered a case under sections 356 and 379 of the IPC on November 7.”

The incident took place on November 2, in a moving local train at Belapur station. The police rushed Mr Singh to MGM Hospital in Panvel after they found him injured on platform number one.

However, since Mr Singh was unconscious, the reason for his condition was not known.

It was only after the police went through the CCTV footage that they came to know about the theft and registered a case.

Panvel GRP officials said that the accused is yet to be identified. The CCTV footage only shows the accused’s rear and two witnesses confirmed that the accused was wearing a red shirt and track pant and his height was around 5.6 feet.
