24-year-old techie stabbed to death near Oshiwara

The Oshiwara police suspect the assailants targeted the computer engineer due to a past dispute.

Mumbai: A 24-year-old computer engineer was stabbed to death on Saturday night near Oshiwara in Andheri. The victim, Sufiyan Ahmed Khan, succumbed to his injuries in the civic-run Cooper Hospital early on Sunday after getting attacked by three men, each wearing a helmet, who came on a bike. Following the incident, the Oshiwara police have registered a murder case against three unknown persons. The police suspect the assailants targeted the victim due to a past dispute, the details are being ascertained. The police are also looking for CCTV footage that may have captured the incident for clues on the assailants and their bike.

The police sources said that the incident took place on Saturday night at 9 pm, when the deceased Sufiyan Khan was seated at a spot, a little away from his residence at the Gulshan Nagar area of Jogeshwari (west) and was checking his mobile phone. Three persons, each wearing a helmet, riding a triple seat on a motorcycle came and intervened Khan, thrashing his head against a wall, and attacked him with a knife. The unidentified trio also stabbed Khan in the chest.

Following the attack, the trio fled from the spot, leaving Khan to bleed out. The onlookers immediately rushed Khan to the nearest civic-run Cooper Hospital, where Khan was being treated, but succumbed to death early on Sunday. The Oshiwara police then registered a case of murder with common intention against unknown persons, under section 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code respectively.

Subhash Khanvilkar, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station said, “We have registered a case of murder against the unknown persons. No arrests have been made yet.” Mr Khanvilkar added, “Khan’s parents allege that the attack was made after his argument with a few men in the vicinity over a motor cycle’s parking space.”

A police officer on the condition of anonymity said that based on the deceased’s father’s allegations, they have started an investigation to locate the men with whom he had an argument to find out their whereabouts when the incident took place.
