Afghanistan VP meets Maharashtra governor, thanks him for bldg, dam
Mumbai: Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Sarwar Danish had a meeting with C. Vidyasagar Rao, the governor of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan on Sunday. He said that 5,000 Afghan students are pursuing higher education in Maharashtra on Indian Scholarships and hoped that India will further increase the number of scholarships.
Expressing satisfaction over the dramatic expansion of bilateral ties between India and Afghanistan, Sarwar Danish called for further strengthening cultural, economic & business cooperation and political and strategic relations between the two countries.
The Vice President of Afghanistan thanked India for its help in building the Afghan parliament building in Kabul and the Salma dam, now renamed as Afghanistan - India Friendship Dam, in Herat. Welcoming the Vice President to Maharashtra, Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao called for establishing air connectivity between Kabul and other cities in Afghanistan with Mumbai. This according to him will increase trade and promote tourism between the two countries.
