Mumbai: Amidst incidents of bodies being found in suitcases, the Panvel police registered a fresh case, after decomposed mortal remains of a man was found there on Monday. The body was stuffed in a black suitcase, that was found by the banks of Gadhi river between Harigram and Panvel, police said. The identity of the murdered man is being established.

The incident came to light on Monday, when a teenager went for fishing near the river and spotted the bag with limbs hanging out. He was shocked to find the mortal remains and informed the villagers about the same. The people informed the Panvel Taluka police station who have now sent the body for a medical examination.

“The deceased man was wearing a trouser and a black shirt. We are yet to identify him and are trying to locate the place from where the suitcase was flung in the river,” said an officer of Panvel police.

Several police teams have been formed to track the accused and also to check all spots where there is access to the river.

The officials are also interrogating gram panchayats in the neighbourhood and are in the process of scanning missing persons complaints in and around Panvel.

A case of murder has been registered against unknown persons and the police is also checking for CCTV camera footage, if any, of the incident.

This incident comes days after a father killed his daughter on December 8 and chopped her into three over her love affair with a Muslim boy. The accused, Arvind Tiwari, a Titwala resident was arrested by Thane crime branch for killing the girl and dumping her body outside Kalyan station, stuffed inside a suitcase.

The investigators said that the accused raised suspicion while travelling in an auto-rickshaw with the bag stuffed with the deceased girl’s lower body. When the auto driver questioned him about the stench coming from the bag, the accused simply dumped the bag and fled from the spot.

In another incident, a daughter chopped her foster father to death and disposed of his mortal remains stuffed inside suitcase inside the Mithi river. The Vakola police arrested the girl and her boyfriend for killing her father Bennett Rebello. The Daughter alleged that Bennett had sexually assualted her on multiple occasions. However, the neighbours and family members stoutly refuted the claim and said that the 19-year-old was eyeing his property and knew about his investments.
