Kisan sabha wants unconditional loan waiver for Maharashtra farmers

The AIKS has appealed to the state government not to put any terms and conditions while waiving off farmers' loans.

Mumbai: The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has started mounting pressure on the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government to make farmers in Maharashtra debt-free.

The AIKS has appealed to the state government not to put any terms and conditions while waiving off farmers’ loans.

The farmers, who are in distress owing to unseasonal rain, floods and drought, have taken loans from private moneylenders and financial institutions. The AIKS has demanded that all kinds of loans be written off.

Dr Ajit Nawale, state secretary of AIKS and farmer-activist, said that while campaigning for the Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena repeatedly made promises to write off 7/12 extracts of farmers.

“As the people have given the mandate to the Sena for writing off farmers’ loans, the Sena-led government should waive off farmers’ loans in entirety,” he said.
