The Indira dock is housed in HDD which was built in 1914 and is one the largest dock in the western coast of India.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for ship repair management at its Indira docks, Ballard Pier in south Mumbai. The company is expected to set-up a ‘ship repair ecosystem’ and cater towards commercial as well as defence purposes. The ship repair management at the dry docks facility of the port trust will be there on lease basis. According to a CSL spokesperson, a lease of 30 years has been agreed with the authorities.

According to the MoU, CSL is expected to expand and enhance the existing ship repairing system and set-up Floating Dry Dock (FDD) and the upgradation of existing Hughes Dry Dock (HDD). This would serve the increasing ship repair demands in Mumbai, which is a key port of the country. The Indira dock is housed in HDD which was built in 1914 and is one the largest dock in the western coast of India.
