MMRDA blames Malaysian contractor for sorry state of monorail operations
Mumbai: In a fresh salvo, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has blamed Malaysian contractor, Scomi Engineering, for the sorry state of affairs the monorail is in. It has alleged that since Scomi is not purchasing tyres for the existing ten rakes, only two out of the ten rakes are operational in the entire first phase between Wadala and Chembur.
MMRDA said that monorail operations have been dependent on the two functional rakes for almost a year now. Of the total ten rakes the authority has, only two functional ones (rolling stock) have been in use for both up and down services while four others are under maintenance and still four are in need of major repairs.
Sanjay Khandare, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said, “We are constantly following up with Scomi regarding the maintenance and installation of new tyres.”
Meanwhile, Scomi did not respond to a query.
