Mumbai: Remaining firm on the issue of an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday asked his party workers to adopt an aggressive strategy for the election of the two legislative council constituencies of Mumbai, the teacher’s and the graduate constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party too has fielded its candidates in both seats. So after the Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll, the next face-off for the two parties will be the legislative council seats.

Mr Thackeray cleared the fact that he is firm on his stand of the Sena contesting elections on its own. “Graduate constituency has been our bastion. But this time, we will have to win the teacher’s constituency as well. Our pledge to have Sena everywhere must be kept in mind. I appeal to all Shiv Sainiks to work hard for it,” said Mr Thackeray.

Mr Thackeray also appealed to all his party men to put in extra effort in the graduate constituency as the Sena has fielded a new candidate for the seat. “Vilas Potanis is a common Shiv Sainik. We will have to see him win. There should not be any if and buts about this,” warned.

The Shiv Sena has also fielded candidates for the two other constituencies undergoing elections simultaneously. In the Konkan graduate constituency as well as Nashik’s teacher’s constituency, the party has fielded its candidates against the BJP. The Konkan has been a BJP stronghold but by contesting the seat, the Sena will be doing its best to snatch it. Mr Thackeray is expected to address party workers from Konkan this week.
