Sion-Panvel highway sees heavy traffic
Mumbai: Heavy traffic was witnessed on Sion-Panvel highway on Saturday owing to the potholes. In addition to this, a tanker which was carrying liquid propone, was crashed by the trailer on Sanpada flyover in the early hours on Saturday. This added to the vehicular traffic in the area.
While the Navi Mumbai control room police said that the traffic on the Sion-Panvel highway was due to the work of filling potholes, which is being carried out at CBD Belapur, Uran Phata and Nerul.
The effect of the crash caused damage to the tanker’s capsule, resulting in slight leakage of propane gas as the chemical spilled on the flyover.
According to the control room, the trailer crashed with the tanker at 2.45 am on Saturday.
Officials said that, they immediately contacted the rescue team of chemical experts from Thane who stopped the leakage.
The traffic in the area was diverted till 7.00 am. Senior Inspector of Vashi Traffic, Satish Gaikwad, said that the traffic was on the Sion-Panvel highway due to rain, potholes and as it was weekend, people had left from the city.
Mr Gaikwad said, “We have diverted the traffic through Palm Beach Road to clear the traffic. In addition to this, we have also given exemption in the toll on the roads for three hours. Traffic was cleared on Sion-Panvel road by 11.30 am.”
On Saturday morning, the traffic on Sanpada flyover was closed till the traffic police removed the trailer.
