Uddhav Thackeray wants BMC role in Metro work
Mumbai: The Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday paid a visit to the ongoing Metro 3 work at Azad Maidan. The party chief said that he was still not happy about the Metro car shed being built at Aarey. His party has been opposed to using Aarey land for metro work. Mr Thackeray also demanded that the Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) should be taken into consideration for the metro work.
Mr Thackeray, who was accompanied by Ms Ashwini Bhide, managing director, MMRCA, Mr Deepak Kesarkar, minister of state and MP Anil Desai, said, “I feel the BMC and the state government should work together for the metro project. It is necessary to take BMC’s permission for it, just like it is taken for all other projects,” he said.
Speaking on complaints regarding cracks appearing in buildings along the metro route, Mr Thackeray said officials were taking care of it. “It is true that some buildings on the Metro-3 line felt tremors due to the work. However, metro officials are taking sufficient measures to avoid any damage,” he said. A few buildings in south Mumbai including Siddharth College, J. N. Petit library had complained about the cracks to their institutes.
Reacting on the Sena’s opposition to build metro car depot at Aarey, Uddhav said, “I will visit Aarey soon. I am still not convinced about the work there. But I will speak after visiting the area. The Sena will continue its opposition if there is any damage to the environment,” he clarified.
