Traffic cop tows car with mother, baby still inside

The woman said that the constable should have shown some humanity.

Mumbai: A traffic police constable was suspended after he towed a four-wheeler car with woman and her infant inside it. Repeated pleas made by the woman stating that she was feeding her child and hence the car was stopped, failed to dissuade the traffic police constable identified as Shashank Rane.

According to the officials, a man uploaded the video of the incident on social media, which has gone viral. After the video came to light, the incident was reported to the higher authorities who suspended Rane immediately. The incident took place on SV Road in Malad in the afternoon and while the car was being towed the people surrounding the car started creating a ruckus.

“It has been prima facie noticed that the safety of the woman and the child was endangered in the said incident. Hence, till the enquiry is completed, the constable is being placed under suspension. The decision about departmental action shall be taken after the enquiry report is received,” said Amitesh Kumar, joint commissioner of police traffic.

A senior officer added that “The DCP traffic west has been ordered to visit the spot and conduct an enquiry into the incident. It will be dealt with appropriately, and stern action will be taken after the report is received by authorities.”

The police officer added that the woman in her statement said that since her child is an infant, she was breastfeeding the baby, which was her first priority. The woman said that the constable should have shown some humanity. The woman also confirmed that she was feeding her child while the traffic police constable towed her vehicle.
