Mumbai: Single parent Juveria Patni is fighting to get her son’s passport through social media via a petition. After divorcing eight years ago, Ms Patni, the mother of 10-year-old Muhammad, received a rude shock when passport officials allegedly rejected her son’s application because it did not have her ex-husband’s signature. After an unsuccessful attempt, Ms Patni has now started a petition on change.org and also tweeted to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, requesting help.

Talking to the Asian Age, Ms Patni said,  “I look after my son alone. My ex-husband doesn’t even bother to see him. Why, then, would the government office ask for his father’s signature? My application, to my shock, was discarded because it did not have my ex-husband’s signature.” Mohammad uses his mother’s last name.
