Mumbai: A 28-year-old woman, Ketaki Gavande, jumped to death from the 23rd floor of a Prabhadevi building on Monday around 1.20 pm.

According to police, Gavande had been battling depression for the past seven years. She was also undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Gavande was married barely two months ago to a businessman from south Mumbai. She returned to her parents’ house at Twin Tower, Prabhadevi last week after feeling depressed again. She was rushed to Sion Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

The police is probing the reason that triggered her to take such an extreme step.

Diwakar Shelke, senior police inspector of Dadar police station said, “We have registered an accidental death report(ADR) in the case. Prima facie it is a suicide, but we have not found any suicide note at the spot.” He added that the police would speak to the family to get some clues. Sources from the police said that Gavande was battling depression since her college days. She was an Arts graduate.

“Her depression might have haunted here back after the marital bliss. She returned to her maiden home at Prabhadevi’s Twin Tower last week,” said a police source.

The police source added that Gavande was sitting near the window of her house on the 23rd floor, when she suddenly got up and leaped out of the window.

The watchman of the building and the passers-by saw her lying in a pool of blood. Gavande’s family and in-laws will perform her last rites on Tuesday.
