No headway in minor boys' suicide case
Mumbai: Nine months on, the Powai police has made no headway in the case where two minor boys, aged 10 and 13 years, committed suicide after being sodomised for more than a month. The police blamed the absence of CCTV footage in the area and also the unwillingness of people to come forward as witnesses.
Police sources said that the probe had hit a dead end as there was no concrete proof to ascertain the identity of the men who committed the crime.
Thepolice sent a team of four police officers to Uttar Pradesh after suspecting the perpetrators of the crime to have taken refuge there. However, the team returned a week later empty-handed.
DCP Navinchandra Reddy said, “The children in Powai village were the only major lead we had in the case, but after being pressurised by their parents, they never recorded their statements.”
