Mumbai: The Bombay high court has directed the medical officer of state-run J.J. Hospital to remain present before the court on July 16.

The direction came after Sheena Bora murder accused Peter Mukerjea’s counsel informed the court that the former media baron’s treatment will continue till July 17 in Criticare Hospital after which, he should not be directly sent to Byculla jail as he needs to be kept under observation in the state-run J.J. Hospital.

Justice Revati Mohite-Dere was hearing a petition filed by Mr Mukerjea, who is facing trial in the Sheena Bora murder case.

On June 1, the HC had allowed him to get admitted to a private hospital for post-operative cardiac rehabilitation sessions.

Justice Mohite-Dere had directed the authorities of Arthur Road prison, where Mr Mukerjea has been lodged since his arrest in 2015, to shift him to Criticare Hospital for a period of 15 days.

Mr Mukerjea had in May filed an application in the high court, seeking interim bail on medical grounds. His counsel had argued that Mr Mukerjea was sent to jail without being given access to post-operative care after he underwent a cardiac surgery in March-April this year.

On Friday, his counsel informed the court that his post-operative cardiac rehabilitation sessions will continue till July 17 after which time, he needs observation. Mr Mukerjea’s counsel urged the court to keep him in J.J. Hospital. The court then kept the hearing on July 16 and asked the J.J. medical officer to remain present and assess Mr Mukerjea’s medical report.
