3 weeks on, Delisle remains unattended

The Asian Age had earlier reported that the BMC was not taking the WR's request for reconstruction of the Delisle Bridge at Lower Parel seriously.

Mumbai: Nearly three weeks after Lower Parel’s Delisle Bridge was shut down for pedestrian and vehicular traffic after being found “unsafe”, there is still no headway as to who exactly will build the bridge and when it will be functional. Ami-dst complaints from commuters who used the bridge, the Western Railway (WR) in July invited an expression of interest (EoI) to explore the construction methodology of the RoB.

Swapanil Shinde, a motorist, said “There is no such board being displayed from which we can understand when the bridge will be opened and how many more days we need to suffer like this.”

Reshmi Nair, a commuter who works in Wo-rli, said, “The shutdown of the Delisle road-over-bridge (RoB) is causing immense pain, chaos and traffic in Dadar, Lower Parel and Parel are-as, which are major offi-ce hubs. It takes 40 to 45 minutes to get out of Lower Parel since the bridge has been shut.”

The Asian Age had earlier reported that the BMC was not taking the WR’s request for reconstruction of the Delisle Bridge at Lower Parel seriously. The WR had approached the state urban development dep-artment (UDD) to direct the BMC to reconstruct the bridge a fortnight ago but nothing has happened, yet.

Two days ago, the WR issued a statement that a number of materials of public-related utilities such as cables, wires and ducts were passing thro-ugh this bridge. The concerned departments had been requested by the WR to shift these materials immediately by Aug-ust 20. In case they were not shifted, the same would be removed by WR to ensure further action.
