Mumbai Dargahs donate to CM relief fund

Private educational trusts in Ahmednagar district have also come forward with aid.

Mumbai: Several religious organisations have been coming forward to help the flood-affected people in Western Maharashtra in cash, kind and basic amenities.

In the latest instance, prominent dargahs like the Haji Ali Dargah Trust and Pir Maghdum Saheb Charitable Trust — which administers the prominent Mahim Dargah —have donated to the chief minister’s relief fund.

Advocate Rizwan Merchant, who is the trustee of both Dargahs, said, “We are collecting relief materials and we have also given crores in cash to the chief minister’s relief fund.”

“Our trusts are always on the forefront when it comes to helping victims,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that the deluge has resulted in the loss of life and property. We need to be more generous and I appeal to all people to come forward and contribute to the people who are in distress due to the floods,” he further added.

Earlier, Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SST), which manages the prominent temple dedicated to Sai Baba of Shirdi, had announced a financial assistance of '10 crore for the flood-affected.

In an outpouring of support for the flood victims, three trucks carrying essential food items, mineral water, medicines, edible oil, vegetables, clothes and blankets have been dispatched to Kolhapur and Sangli from Shirdi.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans posted at Shirdi airport have also made their contribution to the relief efforts, by providing edible oil tins and food items.

Private educational trusts in Ahmednagar district have also come forward with aid.
