FDA drive extends to 300 temples across Maharashtra,
Mumbai: The FDA has conducted programmes with over 300 temples and their trustees all over Maharashtra, along with a few nearby vendors, training them to advance their level of food hygiene.
The temples that received such training include Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple, Kolhapur’s Mahalaxmi temple, Narsobachi Wadi, Akkalkot and Shegaon, among other famous temples in the state.
The temples’ kitchen staff received training by FDA officials along with other temple’s trustees to improve the standard of their ‘prasad’. This move comes after people questioned the hygiene and standard of the temples’ food.
FDA commissioner Dr Pallavi Darade said, “This initiative has been successful with Siddhivinayak’s ‘prasad’ being accepted as a healthy food item according the United States’ FDA standards.”
The FDA is likely to train some 40,000 odd restaurateurs to comply with the same upgraded standards.
